1. Get Some Vitamin D By Taking a Walk

Sometimes getting a bit of sun can go a long way.  It can put you in a great mood just to feel the sun kissing your face. Please don’t forget that sunscreen. There is nothing like a gentle breeze through your hair, and a morning walk just for you. As moms, our days are filled with hustle, and this quiet time is your moment to gather your thoughts, breathe deeply, and set a positive tone for the day. The world may rush around you, but in this simple act, you find your own pace, your own peace. I’m learning more and more how important it is to get that vitamin D even if it’s just for 10-20 minutes.

2. Read Your Favorite Book

Remember the joy of getting lost in a good book? It’s not just a distant memory; it’s a gift you can give yourself anytime. Visit your local library or order your favorite book on Amazon and pick out a story that speaks to your soul. As you turn the pages, you step into new worlds, and new perspectives, and maybe even find pieces of yourself between the lines. It’s not just reading; it’s a journey of self-discovery, one chapter at a time and an easy way to practice self care for moms.

3. Tune into a Podcast

Ever slipped on your headphones, pressed play, and felt like you were in the company of a kindred spirit? Podcasts do that. They’re your lifeline to the world beyond your mom duties. Listen to voices that resonate with your interests – whether it’s parenting, personal growth, or just witty banter. In those moments, you’re not just a mom; you’re an individual, learning, laughing, and expanding your horizons in the midst of daily chaos. The podcast world is really getting more and more popular! I’m excited to share my story through a podcast very soon!

4. Positive Social Media Cleanse

Social media, a double-edged sword, right? But here’s the thing: you have the power to curate your feed. Unfollow those accounts that make you question your worth or leave you feeling inadequate. Instead, follow creators who uplift, inspire, and make you smile. Each scroll becomes an affirmation of your value, reminding you that you are more than a mom; you’re a force to be reckoned with.

5. Savor Your Meals First

Let’s flip the script. Before you dive into the endless loop of serving others, treat yourself to a mindful meal. That moment when you savor every bite, relishing the flavors and textures without interruptions. It’s not just nourishment; it’s a declaration that your needs matter too. The kids can wait a few minutes while you nourish your body and soul, setting the tone for a day of balance. Self-care for moms is important, because if you don’t have any energy, how will you take care of your little babies?

6. Audiobook Escapes

Life moves fast, and sometimes, a good book feels like a distant dream. But what if you could read while doing other things? Try Audiobooks. Pop in your earbuds while cooking, commuting, or tidying up. Suddenly, mundane tasks become your passport to literary worlds. It’s multitasking with a twist of self-indulgence, giving you the joy of a story without sacrificing precious time. I love how an audiobook allows me to multitask.

7. Heartfelt Journaling

Moms are the listeners, the solvers, the pillars of support. But what about your thoughts and emotions? You need to start journaling, a sacred space just for you. Pour out your heart onto those pages – the dreams, fears, and victories that sometimes go unnoticed in the whirlwind of life. It’s not just writing; it’s a conversation with yourself, a chance to acknowledge and honor the depth of your feelings. Many people may not know this, but I love to write. I write what I’m feeling in my journal as poetry, and that’s why I used to have journals filled with poems. This is a great way to get your thoughts out and a very low budget way to practice self-care for moms.

8. Take out time to pray or meditate

As a mom, it’s important to find time to center yourself through prayer or meditation. It really can set the tone and give you a boost in your mindset. Imagine a few minutes of stillness amid the chaos – that’s prayer. It’s not about emptying your mind; it’s about finding a quiet corner within yourself. As moms, our minds are often a jumble of to-do lists and worries. Allow prayer and meditation to be your sanctuary, where you gently guide your thoughts back to the present moment. Inhale calm, exhale stress – it’s a daily gift you give yourself.  You got this Mommy, just breathe!

9. Yoga from YouTube

All you need is your living room, a yoga mat, and a YouTube video guiding you through gentle stretches. Yoga isn’t just about flexibility; it’s a dance between your breath and movement. As you flow, tension melts away, and you’re left with a profound connection to your body. It’s not a luxury reserved for studios; it’s your personal retreat, offering strength, balance, and a moment of respite.

10. Pampering Night Ritual

Balancing life as a mom is really important. And while you’re always busy taking care of your precious babies, you need to pamper yourself as well. Dim the lights, put on some soothing music, and try out your favorite skincare products. A pampering routine isn’t just about vanity; it’s an act of self-love. As you cleanse, moisturize, and care for your skin, you’re sending a powerful message: you deserve this care, this attention. The quiet moments in front of the mirror become a reminder that you are worth every moment of indulgence.

11. Dance Like Nobody's Watching

Turn your living room into your personal dance floor. Crank up those tunes and let yourself go! It doesn’t matter if your moves are a bit off– in fact, that’s the point. Dancing is like a magical stress-relief potion that also skyrockets your mood. So shimmy, twirl, twerk, and dance away those worries. I love to use dance to express myself, and back in high school there I was dancing in front of the marching band and it felt great! When you’re dancing you get lost in the moment and it can free you from stress and anxiety. Go ahead put on your favorite song and do your best Beyoncé moves.

12. Let the Creative Juices Flow

Are you ready to unleash your inner artist? Grab some paints, crayons, or crafting supplies – Engage in a creative activity that lets you escape into a world of imagination. Don’t worry about perfection; it’s all about having fun and letting your artistic soul shine. There are many ways to be creative; whether it is drawing or singing your favorite song. You can use this opportunity to do something you love and lean into the moment.

13. Affirmations for Your Soul

Here’s a little secret: you’re amazing, and you need to hear it! Look in the mirror and speak positive affirmations to yourself. Remind yourself of your strength, worth, and capabilities. It’s like a pep talk from your biggest fan – you! I actually taught this to my kids and I can up with an affirmational chant that my kids can say in the morning.

14. Phone-Free Moments

Let’s give those phones a break, sis. Disconnect and immerse yourself in the real world. Whether it’s a walk, a heart-to-heart conversation with your loved ones, or just savoring a cup of coffee in peace – a little digital detox can do wonders. Say hello to clarity, presence, a calmer mind and self-care for moms.

Celebrate those victories and give yourself a high-five. You’re doing an amazing job, and this list is your reminder.

16. Embrace the Power of Naps

Oh, the blessing of a nap! When the opportunity arises, grab it like it’s the last piece of chocolate in the house. A short nap can recharge your energy levels and make you feel like a whole new person. Just a few moments of shut-eye, and you’ll be ready to conquer the world (or at least the rest of the day).

17. Watch Your Favorite Movie

Remember that movie that always made you smile? It’s time for the perfect movie night! Pop some popcorn, snuggle up, and chill. These movies will either have you laughing or feeling intense, anticipating what will happen next. You can even watch a childhood favorite that will bring back the memories of where you were when you first watched it, and you’ll love how you know all the words to it.

18. Practice Gratitude

Get ready to count your blessings, mama! Make a list of things you’re grateful for – big and small. Focusing on the positive aspects of your life can do wonders for your overall well-being. It’s like giving your heart a little hug and saying, “Hey, life is good.’’

19. Reach Out to Old Friends

Remember those friends from the past who made your world brighter? Reconnect with them! A message or a call can reignite that spark and bring a sense of comfort. It’s like catching up with an old book – the stories might continue, but the connection is as strong as ever.

20. Embrace Forgiveness

Here’s a powerful act of self-love: forgive. Let go of grudges and release the weight of past hurts. It’s not about forgetting; it’s about freeing yourself from that heavy baggage. Forgiveness is like a breath of fresh air for your soul – liberating and uplifting, and it is also a very underrated form of self-care!

21. Travel When You Can!

Pack those bags because travel can be the ultimate self-love potion. I get it, travel might sound like another chore, but trust me, it’s the perfect remedy for those “mommy needs a break” moments. From leaving the dishes behind to exploring new places with your mini explorers, these adventures aren’t just about ticking destinations off your bucket list. Can I do self-care on a budget?

Absolutely, Mommy! Self-care isn't about spending big bucks. It's about finding joy in the simple things. Remember that book you've been wanting to read? Borrow it from the library. Craving a cozy bath? Light some candles and use that bubble bath you got ages ago. Self-care can be as free as a warm hug.

Is it selfish to prioritize myself sometimes?

Not at all! Think of it this way: when you take care of yourself, you're like a superhero leveling up. You're better equipped to take care of your family when you're feeling good. It's like putting on your oxygen mask first on an airplane – you can't help others if you're running on empty. Prioritizing you is an act of love, not selfishness.

Why do I feel guilty taking time for myself as a mom?

The mom guilt struggle is real! But here's the deal: guilt is like a sneaky little monster trying to steal your joy. Remind yourself that you deserve happiness too. You're setting a fantastic example for your kids by showing them that taking care of themselves is important. So when guilt knocks, tell it, "Not today, buddy!"
